The movement can be seen on the facades by the glazing strips that stretch towards the sky across the six storeys of the building. Inside the building, the main staircase in green fibre cement runs in a spiral form between the storeys in the unifying internal atrium. This energy efficiency can be achieved by highly insulating windows and extra insulation on all of the building’s external surfaces. The building’s intelligent air conditioning system is also taking an important role in low energy consumption. The air conditioning system adjusts itself according to the number of people present in each individual room.

Recent research shows that longtime smokers often present a similar symptom before their cancer is diagnosed: They spontaneously quit smoking with little effort. Researchers speculate that sudden cessation may be a symptom of lung cancer.

Most patients who quit did so before noticing any symptoms of cancer, according to the study, which was published in the March issue of the Journal of Thoracic Oncology (JTO), the official monthly journal of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).

Researchers found that 48 percent of the lung cancer patients they included in the study shared this experience. For comparison, researchers also interviewed patients with prostate cancer and those who had suffered a heart attack: The median interval between quitting smoking and lung cancer diagnosis was 2.7 years, compared with 24.3 years for prostate cancer and 10 years for a heart attack.

“It is widely known that many lung cancer patients have stopped smoking before diagnosis,” said Dr. Barbara Campling, professor in the Department of Medical Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. “This observation is often dismissed, by saying that these patients must have quit because of symptoms of their cancer. However, we found that the majority of lung cancer patients who stopped smoking before diagnosis quit before the onset of symptoms. Furthermore, they often quit with no difficulty, despite multiple previous unsuccessful quit attempts. This has led us to speculate that, in some cases, spontaneous smoking cessation may be an early symptom of lung cancer.”

The researchers suggest that spontaneous smoking cessation may be caused by tumor secretion of a substance interfering with nicotine addiction.

In Brazil, there is a unique place, which surprised even themselves Brazilians. This Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, located in north-eastern Brazil, in the State of Maranhão, near the town of Barreyrinyas.
It is an area of low, flat, occasionally flooded land, overlaid with large, discrete sand dunes. It encompasses roughly 1000 square kilometers, and despite abundant rain, supports almost no vegetation. The park was created on June 2, 1981. It was featured in the Brazilian film The House of Sand. Most recently, it was featured in the song “Kadhal Anukkal” from the Indian film, Enthiran.

The National Park is quite extensive and has no access roads. Because of the nature of the park’s protected status, most vehicles are not permitted access. Entrance to the park is made exclusively by 4-wheel drive trucks.

Composed of large, white, sweeping dunes, at first glance Lençóis Maranhenses looks like an archetypal desert. In fact it isn’t actually a desert. Lying just outside the Amazon basin, the region is subject to a regular rain season during the beginning of the year. The rains cause a peculiar phenomenon: fresh water collects in the valleys between sand dunes, spotting the desert with blue and green lagoons that reach their fullest between July and September.

The area is also surprisingly home to a variety of fish which, despite the almost complete disappearance of the lagoons during the dry season, have their eggs brought from the sea by birds

2. Not only are coupons cash, but sometimes they are worth more than their face value. This makes coupons even better than cash. Find a grocery store in your area that doubles and triples coupons. Watch your savings multiply. You wouldn’t see that happen with cash.

3. Coupons aren’t just for junk food. Yes, there are a LOT of coupons for junk food. There are also a lot of coupons for paper products, make up, beverages, frozen vegetables, etc. Pretty much the only products you cannot easily find coupons for are meat and fresh produce. Buy those on sale. I know your grocery bill is compromised of more than meat and fresh produce.

4. Coupons are everywhere. Print them online. Cut them out of the paper. Grab them from the entrance of the grocery store. You can even load coupons electronically onto store loyalty cards. It’s ridiculously easy to find coupons nowadays.

5. Coupons allow you to use brand name items. Now, I am not a generic snob. If the generic is cheaper, I always buy generic. With coupons, I don’t have to. Generally when I combine a coupon with a sale, the brand name item is cheaper. Using coupons, I am buying brands I have never been able to afford!

6. Using coupons strategically you can easily save 50-75% off your grocery bill every single week.

7. The biggest savings come when you hold onto your coupons. Find a way to organize your coupons. Wait to use them until you can combine them with a really great sale. This is how the pros shop.

8. Think about how many coupons go unclaimed? Thousands of dollars right back into the advertisers pockets! Stake your claim! They are giving you money!

9. The more money you save on your groceries by using coupons, the more you can give back. Find a great deal and buy extra. Donate it. Coupons help you do good deeds.

10. Finally, in this economy who can afford not to use coupons? Everyone is pinching pennies. Can you afford not to use free money?

MBA programs have never been cheap. And as the demand for these courses grows, so too, do the course fees. In fact, if the staggering fees for two-year full-time MBAs astonished you, have a look at the tuition fees being charged by part-time executive MBA programs. The most expensive executive MBA course is currently the one being offered by Wharton in downtown Francisco. The 24-month part-time course costs a whopping $172,000.

Break that figure down and you will find that students are spending about $250 an hour for the course. The per hour figures for full-time MBAs at the same institution is a good $100 less. Some more number crunching and you realise that per hour-long class, Wharton is pocketing some $12,300.

This is not even a stray case. Coming in second on the list of ‘most expensive executive MBA programs’ is Wharton’s Philadelphia campus. Here, students have to shell out $162,300 for the entire course. Compare that with the $108,000 that full-time MBA students pay at the same campus. Thus, some 400 students are contributing $35 million as annual revenue for Wharton’s Executive MBA programs.

The reason for the crushing fees is largely related to Wharton’s brand image. As with other luxury brands, Wharton’s reputation helps justify the high fees. Michael Desiderio, executive director of the Executive MBA Council, calculates that an executive MBA program should cost an average of $65,555. However, Anjani Jain, the vice dean for Wharton’s MBA Program for Executives, claims that what pushes the cost up is that the institute offers a premium learning experience that includes boarding, lodging and some of the world’s best business faculty. Part of the story is also that employed executives are less troubled by the high costs.

Those spiders are busy all day every day, seeking new appearances of words that match the search phrases people are entering into their browsers.

Therefore, the list of available sites where you can research "ebook software" continues to grow like Topsy.

However, the spiders have more than just search phrases and key words to consider. Through the magic and mystery of something called "algorithms" they are also evaluating web sites for Content.

The word deserves Capitalization, because Content is becoming Cing (or should I say Kontent is becoming King?).

But if your page’s Content is all about the advantages of your software, like the fact that it is rebrandable, can be used with no HTML experience, it’s a much cheaper alternative to Adobe ebook software and PDF files, will let you embed links in images text and pictures, plus it allows you to use a voice over track (which no other software of its kind can do) then you somehow get an advantage in the search ranking process because the content was relevant.

So back to writing articles and why.

Let us say you write an article in January 2006 and put it on your own web site – not in an article directory, but just on your own web site.

The spiders will find it, log it, and if the article contains something about "ebook software" with a link to your site (where of course you would be selling such software) then at some time someone is going to see your site mentioned in a search result, and go there.

You Need Maximum Exposure
The caveat however is that you also know you need perhaps 100 visitors specifically looking for your product to get one buyer. Therefore, you need far more exposure for your article than simply your own web site.

Which is why writing articles and submitting them to directories or web sites that will promote your work becomes a very attractive no-cost proposition.

It costs nothing to write something about anything, and provided you follow a few basic rules of style and content (usually spelled out clearly by the site where your work will be published) your exposure to the spiders – which translates to exposure to people searching for your product – goes up exponentially.

This is especially true if your article is picked up for use in someone else’s ezine or newsletter – an avenue which has great merit and benefits for both writer and publisher, provided the author’s resource box remains intact as a post script.

In that regard it is very important to include a primary link to a specific landing page on your web site. (like the one that follows this article for example).

But this link should not automatically be your home page. It should be your product’s sales page with more relevant Content (sales copy) where the product you have written about can be read about in detail. Be sure to include that all-important call-to-action and a buy button, as well as some way to capture your visitors’ name and email address so you can follow up for possible further sales.

And remember, that article you wrote in January 2006 is going to stay around for years to come, living a life of its own and at some time it is going to translate into money in the bank.

With this unique project, the Bulgarian tuners partnered up with the guys from Overdrive, who took on the performance package. It combines luxury, comfort and at the same time, some sort of “home” simplicity sudden realization of creative ideas. A Room Full of Ancient Scrolls and Parchments-Travel and Tourism

Ask most people to draw an outline picture of the Houses of Parliament, and often you will get long oblong with “Big Ben” at one end. Most will not include the huge tower that is at the other end of the Palace – as it is rarely featured in photos, or when it is, perspective makes it look quite insignificant. Despite being taller and much larger than the Clock Tower, it seems to have almost had a cloak of invisibility cast over it.

The tower – properly known as Victoria Tower – is however a vital part of the Palace complex, as it houses the Parliamentary Archives – the formal record of all the business of the Houses of Commons, Lords and Committees.

Although most of the archive is packed full of rather generic documents in boxes on shelves, there is one room which is the one most likely to feature on the news if they need generic footage of old legal documents – and that is the archive where all the Acts of Parliament are stored. What makes it so special is that each Act has been, and still is, hand written on calfskin – known as Vellum – and rolled up for storage.

Thanks to a day of special tours organised by the Parliament as part of the Cultural Olympiad, small groups were given a chance to go into this very special room.

Although the archive is actually open the public, like most depositories (Met Archive, National Archive), the public are only allowed into a reading room, and the staff fetch documents from the stores. So a chance to go into the actual archive store is very rare indeed.

After taking a small cramped lift up to the first floor and a short talk, we headed along a corridor decorated in the red of the House of Lords, through secure doors and then into another even smaller lift to go further up the tower.

Fascinatingly, the centre of the tower was originally hollow with a “chimney” running right from the base to the roof as a ventilation shaft. An iron staircase ran round the central shaft – but this was swiftly blocked off at the fifth floor as the draft coming up the chimney was far too boisterous for a delicate archive.

However, the base of the chimney is still open to the air, and is directly above the Sovereign’s Entrance (you can see the hole in the roof). When The Queen arrives, a messenger watches from above, and as soon as she steps foot onto the red carpet, the messenger sends a signal to the roof to replace the Union Jack with the Royal Standard.

This “first floor” of the Tower is also the floor where the Acts of Parliament are kept – in a specially air-conditioned and air filtered room.

Inside, it is actually made up of metal shelving from the 1960s, but the rows up upon rows of rolled up scrolls is still an extraordinary sight.

Each roll has a small paper tag attached – marked with a code for the Monarch and the year of their reign. So an Act passed this year would be 58, E2 for the 58th year of the reign of Elizabeth II.

The smallest laws tend to be private acts and similar, and probably unsurprisingly, the longest Acts deal with taxes. The largest scroll in their possession if laid out flat is longer than the Palace of Westminster!

We were shown a collection of Acts signed by King Henry 7th, which are unusual for being stored flat rather than in rolls, and a copy of a modern Act as printed for distribution.

What I wasn’t aware of is that the Monarch no longer signs the Acts into law herself, but now nominates someone to act on her behalf instead. Although Warrants for the Dissolution of Parliament or Summons to the House of Peers are still (probably) still signed by The Queen.

As an act is signed, a short sentence is added to the top of the Act, La Reyne le veult – which is Anglo-Norman for The Queen Wills It. You may hear that uttered in the House of Lords during ceremonial events, such as the Prorogation of Parliament when four Lords are nominated to act in the Queen’s absence.

The phrase to use if The Queen DOESN’T will it, is La Reyne s’avisera, but the last time a Monarch refused to sign a bill into law was during the reign of William and Mary.

Although paper copies of the Acts are printed on normal paper for distribution, and can also be read online at the Parliament website, the scrolls are still printed on calfskin, produced in a single factory near Milton Keynes. An attempt by a Labour MP to “modernise” and scrap the use of Vellum was wisely rejected by the Commons in 1999.

The Tower itself holds documents dating back as far as 1497 – although sadly, most of the archive for the House of Commons was lost during the fire that destroyed Parliament in 1834. The House of Lords archive at the time was stored in a separate building across the road and so escaped the conflagration.

As the Commons produces a lot more paperwork than the Lords, it has since caught up with the Lords in terms of documents stored in the archive, and in 2006, it was renamed from the House of Lords Record Office to The Parliamentary Archive to reflect the change.

Incidentally, the Government archives, being separate from the workings of Parliament are stored down at the National Archives in Kew.
